Profile

Tonni 5 held an estate at Bericote (by the river Avon in central Warwickshire) in 1086, when it was assessed for 2 hides and had a value of 40s. He was a subtenant of Thorkil of Warwick (Thorkil 3), whose father Æthelwine 58 had held Bericote TRE. There is no evidence in DB or the later manorial descent of Bericote to link Tonni 5 with the only other TRW landholder of that name, Tonni 3 in Yorkshire; for similar reasons it is unlikely that he can be associated with the Tonni 4 who was the TRE tenant of Caldecote, 16 miles from Bericote, despite the extreme rarity of the name Tonni.
