The fee of Robert, count of Meulan in the Warwickshire Domesday contains three entries relating to Hillmorton. The first of these states that 1.5 hides there were held freely by Merewine, Scroti and Waltheof TRE and by Merewine from the count in 1086; the second states that 1 hide and 1 virgate there was held by freely Scroti TRE and by Waltheof from the count in 1086; and the third states that half a hide was held freely by Waltheof TRE and by Waltheof from the count in 1086 (GDB 240r (Warwickshire 16:35-7). It is probable that Merwine, Scroti and Waltheof were kinsmen, perhaps brothers. The same Waltheof held two hides approximately 10 miles away at Shilton TRE, and continued to hold this from the count in 1086 (GDB 240v (Warwickshire 16:45).
