Profile

Among the peasants of the abbot of Bury’s Suffolk manor of Hesset in 1086 was a Godric son of Beorhtsige (Godric Brichsii filius) who held 4 acres for 4¼d. rent (FBB: 31). Since Beorhtsige was not himself named as a tenant at Hesset or elsewhere, he can be presumed dead by 1086.
