An Æthelrun was named among the king’s thegns of Dorset in 1086, holding 1 hide worth 10s. at Wilksworth, in the Allen valley a mile or two upstream from Wimborne Minster. She may well not have been resident on the estate, since there is no mention of demesne ploughs or livestock in the DB entry, only bordars and slaves. The holding included land for 1 plough as well as pasture and woodland. The only other holding at Wilksworth, of much the same size, belonged in 1086 to another king’s thegn, Doda (Dors. 56:21).
