Ingold is an Anglo-Scandinavian development (via the form Ingald) of the Old Danish masculine name Ingeld (Old Norse Ingialdr), itself an earlier borrowing from a West Germanic name *In-geldar; the related Old English form Ingweald does occur after the mid-eighth century (von Feilitzen 1937: 297-8; Fellows Jensen 1968: 151-2). Ingold is preferred over Ingald as the head-form here because it best reflects the TRE forms.
There are two entries for Ingold in the PASE corpus: Ingold 1 witnessed a probably spurious charter of c.1055x1065 (S 1026) and Ingold 2 is a catch-all for occurrences in DB. There are also five entries for the name Ingeld, of which Ingeld 1-4 are instances of the Old English form occurring before the mid-eighth century (including Ingeld 1, the legendary Germanic prince slated by Alcuin 1) and Ingeld 5 is a catch-all for supposed occurrences of the Old Danish form in DB.
